More info

This gastropod mollusk lives in shallow marine waters associated with coral reefs in which diatom algae, detritus and cyanobacteria are abundant.

The main source of food for the snail Trochus histrio is algae, with a certain predilection for diatoms, also filamentous, hence its usefulness in aquariums as a cleaning snail in the control of seaweed, as well as not damaging corals or other invertebrates.

In aquariums they breed relatively easily, they release the gametes into the water, once released, fertilization occurs randomly. The reproductive stage is motivated by certain changes related to water, the light they receive also has an influence.

The larvae go through a free-swimming stage, later completing their development in the marine substrate.
